Have you ever made a decision with complete confidence, fully believing you were doing the right thing?
Maybe you did as a child. Back then, we thought we could do anything. “Confidence” was just part of the package. But then, adulthood hits, and somewhere along the line, we start doubting ourselves. The sad part? This loss of self-belief often goes unnoticed until we’re stuck—unsure of the next step and not sure of ourselves.
Sound familiar? Here’s the truth: We need that confidence. Whether you're preparing to make a career move, start a new job search, or just get through the day, I believe trust in God is key. It motivates us to act, try new things, and move forward, even when things feel uncertain.
So, if you’re feeling stuck or second-guessing yourself, let’s talk about why that trust may have slipped away—and more importantly, how to get it back!
1. You're Listening to Voices From the Past
Here’s the thing: We’ve all had moments where people in authority (parents, teachers, mentors) have said things that stuck with us—often in a negative way. And when those negative labels get handed out early in life, it’s easy to let them shape how we see ourselves. That kind of self-talk follows us into adulthood and chips away at our confidence.
The Fix:
It’s time to call those voices what they are—wrong. People aren’t perfect, and they don’t always know what’s best. Pray for clarity to see yourself through God's eyes, not others. Write down affirmations that reflect the truth: you’re capable, worthy, and equipped for the journey ahead. Replace those old, negative labels with God’s promises.
2. You’re Surrounded by Naysayers
Let’s be real: Not all negativity lives in the past. Sometimes, the people we love and trust today are the ones unintentionally bringing us down. You’ve probably heard things like, “Are you sure you’re ready for that?” or “That sounds risky...” Yeah, thanks for the vote of confidence, right?
The Fix:
It’s time for a friend inventory. If certain relationships drain you more than they build you up, it’s okay to take a step back. Surround yourself with people who are supportive and want to see you succeed. Find a mentor or accountability partner who will cheer you on and remind you that God didn’t give you a spirit of fear, but of power and love – and a sound mind.
3. You Don’t Feel Like You Deserve Success
Ever get praised for doing something great at work, only to brush it off and think, “Oh, they’re just being nice”? Yeah, I’ve been there. When you’re stuck in a mindset that says you don’t deserve recognition, it can be hard to embrace your accomplishments or even take the next step in your career.
The Fix:
The next time someone gives you a compliment or recognizes your work, pause. Don’t just say, “Thank you” and move on. Really sit with it. Write it down. Reflect on the good work you’ve done and the blessings God has given you. It’s okay to acknowledge the gifts He’s placed in you!
4. You’re Burned Out
When you’re burned out, even the simplest decision feels monumental. Whether it's the endless to-do lists, office drama, or managing work-life balance, stress can drain your confidence quickly.
The Fix:
First things first—rest. Yes, I’m talking about a good, old-fashioned break. Jesus Himself took time away to recharge, so who are we to think we can just push through? Take a walk, get a hobby, take a nap or dive into some quiet time. When you're rested, you'll see everything, including yourself, in a better light.
5. You’re Stuck in a Fear of Failure
Fear has a funny way of paralyzing us. When you’re convinced everything you touch will crumble, taking any action feels impossible. But guess what? Fear is a liar and the truth ain’
The Fix:
Remember that failure isn’t fatal. It’s part of the process. Every successful person you admire? They've all failed. What matters is getting back up. Take a lesson from the failure, pray for wisdom, and try again. Faith is about trusting God to guide you, even when the path looks shaky.
6. You’ve Already Failed (Or So You Think)
It’s hard to keep moving forward when you’ve already stumbled. After all, doesn’t failure just prove you’re not cut out for this?
The Fix:
Here’s what’s up: Failure doesn’t define you. Scripture reminds us that we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us. Failure? It’s just a pit stop, not the final destination. Take time to reflect on what happened, then keep going. Even the smallest steps forward build momentum.
7. You’re Constantly Comparing Yourself to Others
The comparison trap is real. How many times have you seen someone else seemingly thriving and wondered why that’s not you? The truth is, comparison is the fastest way to erode your self-belief.
The Fix:
Stay in your lane! God has a unique purpose for you, and it’s not going to look like anyone else’s journey. Journal your accomplishments, both big and small, and remember that your path is valid, even if it looks different from your neighbor’s.
8. You Don’t Feel Confident in Your Abilities
Not sure you know enough or are capable enough to move forward? Whether it’s a new job search or tackling a big project, self-doubt loves to creep in when we’re out of our comfort zone.
The Fix:
Embrace being a learner. Do your research, gain knowledge, and trust that the more you know, the more confident you’ll feel. Scripture reminds us that we’re constantly being renewed in our minds—so take the opportunity to grow.
9. You Let Others Make the Decisions for You
Have you ever found yourself constantly deferring to others, even when you know deep down what you want or need to do? That’s a confidence killer.
The Fix:
Start small. Make decisions for yourself in everyday situations. As you gain confidence in the little things, you’ll be ready to tackle the big stuff, too. Trust the discernment God gives you.
10. You’re Too Focused on What Others Think
If you’re more concerned with pleasing people than doing what’s right for you, it’s time to reassess. Seeking validation from others is exhausting, and it’s never going to fill the void.
The Fix:
Shift your focus. Start caring less about what others think and more about what God thinks. You are already loved and approved by Him. Stand firm in that truth!
Building confidence starts with small steps and faith. Be patient with yourself and give yourself grace when you stumble. Trust that you’re on the right path, and remember that God has a plan for your life that no amount of self-doubt can derail.
Let’s be real: Success is inevitable when you trust God, trust the process, and, most importantly, believe in yourself.
