Write The Vision

In October 2012 I attended a Vision Board workshop with my best friend. I had heard about them, and was intrigued.

During the workshop the facilitator led us through a visualization activity and instructed us to cut photos and words out of magazines that spoke to us. After a period of time she asked us to arrange the items and glue them on poster board.

To my amazement, the secret dreams of my heart were in front of me. We were instructed to keep the board in a prominent space in our home as a daily reminder to pursue our dreams. This board is kept in my computer room.

My first Vision Board (2012)

I’ve created boards yearly since 2012, and am working on my 2019 board as I compose this entry.

The board I created in 2018 is in my bedroom where it’s the first and last thing I see daily.

There is power in putting your vision on paper. It’s Biblical actually. The God’s Word translation of Habakkuk 2:2-3 explains it like this:

“Write the vision. Make it clear on tablets so that anyone can read it quickly. The vision will still happen at the appointed time. It hurries toward its goal. It won’t be a lie. If it’s delayed, wait for it. It will certainly happen. It won’t be late.”

And this is The Message translation:

“Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.”

How powerful you ask? The photos and word on my boards are coming to life! Here is a snippet of what’s come to pass:

  • A cupcake shop I visited. (2013)

  • A dress I purchased. (2013)

  • A ring I purchased in St. Lucia. (2013)

  • The foliage and landscaping at an Orlando property where I vacationed. (2014)

  • A dining room table, whirlpool tub and bathroom vanity at the Orlando property. (2014)

  • A person from my past who resembles a person on my board contacted me. Not good - I may cover that up on my board! (2014)

  • Robin Thicke – I saw him in concert. (2014)

  • A red oak leaf that I saw when I visited New England. (2014)

  • Actor Joe Morton responded to a Tweet I tagged him in. (2015)

  • I stood up for myself when harassed at my former job. (2015)

  • I recognized it was time to make changes in my life – had to move past my fears. (2015)

  • I quit my job to become a problem solver. (2016)

  • I cut my hair. (2016)

I challenge you to make a Vision Board for yourself.  The action of getting the ideas out of your head and into a visual format is healing – and quite therapeutic. I’m sure you have magazines, newspapers and scissors on hand.

As luck would have it (wink wink), I’m hosting an Online Vision Board Workshop on Friday, January 25, 2019. This 3 hour workshop will be held from 7pm – 10pm CST and the cost is just $59.
