My Happy Place

There were times at my last job where it seemed projects and tasks were thrown at my team left and right.  My department was short staffed, and even though our small team (3 people) did all they could, the workload never became lighter.

I’d been told by friends to look out the window and daydream as a way to reduce stress.  As luck would have it, I didn’t have a window in my office.  I was surrounded by four, sky blue concrete walls with a beige steel door.  Hmmm…that reminds me of what a prison cell might look like!

I took matters into my own hands and created a “Happy Place” in my office.  The Happy Place held items like photos and awards that made me smile and allowed me to drift off into dreamland as needed.  A framed motivational poster of an iceberg was the most meaningful.

An iceberg is a large floating mass of ice that has broken from a glacier or ice sheet and carried out to sea.  The iceberg may be deceiving because only the tip might be visible – much more could be beneath the water. I looked at this photo many times, pretending I was in Alaska seeing glaciers
up close.

Little did I know that in July 2017 I would be in Alaska. I took these photos from the balcony of my cruise ship.  And with a camera, not my phone!
